HARRIET - First modelling session

TFP PROJECTS

There are numerous on going TFP projects in which a model can participate in. TFP projects are structured so that both JAY AND the model benefit in terms of increased portfolio depth, and of course, experience.

TFP PROJECT OVERVIEW

Do remember that as the model, your time NEVER goes un-rewarded. The JAY Fine Art principles of TFP are:

Whatever time you spend shooting for me for my material, I will spend an equivalent time shooting for your requirements or style.JAY

For all TFP shoots, the model gets:

  • A CD containing a copy of all images shot
  • Where appropriate, a set of cropped / colour corrected / manipulated shots processed in PhotoShop
  • A Standard Model Release is normally part of this arrangement, giving JAY Fine Art copyright of all images taken or derived from the shoot, and the model the opportunity to use the images as part of her portfolio or web site
  • Ongoing TFP projects cover:

  • Studio portraits (all styles*)
  • Outdoor portraits (all styles*)
  • Mock magazine, CD, DVD and book covers (e.g. FHM, Elle, Bliss, Loaded, Bizarre, etc.)
  • Fine art nude studies
  • * All styles means Casual, Fashion, Swimwear, Lingerie, See-Thru/Sheer, Fine Art Nude and other styles by arrangement and depending on the models requirements.

The following section shows examples of the quality which can be achieved by doing TFP with Jay, even if you are inexperienced.

    TFP STUDIO PORTRAITS

Although the term 'portrait' is used, this can cover various styles or types of pose, from a relaxing pose against a plain background on a sofa, to a full set such as a bedroom. This is a good opportunity to add a variety of shots to the models portfolio.

It is also a good opportunity for less experienced models to work in front of studio lights. The setting up, testing and general proximity of large lighting arrays can be daunting for a model if they have not done this before.

The following image was taken during the models first ever shoot, so it just goes to prove that even without experience you can get worthwhile images from a studio sitting. Even if you have never been in a studio before.

    Alana - First ever shoot

    TFP OUTDOOR PORTRAITS

    Fiona - First Outdoor Nude

Outdoor portraits can cover a multitude of situations and styles. The style can vary from a casual fashion type shoot on a park bench, to a sports car shoot on a quayside, or a real fine art shoot at one of many great locations available in Suffolk, or around the UK.

With a variety of styles to choose from, a model can obtain something to grace her portfolio, again regardless of experience.

Fiona already had a test shoot with Jay the week before this image was created. She had never been semi-naked outdoors before. The idea was to simply get some great semi-nude outdoor shots for her own personal use, but she was so proud of the result, she ended up showing her family and friends.

Although taken beneath a bridge near a main road in the centre of Scotland, and in a fairly public place, by working closely with Jay she has helped achieve a great result.

TFP MOCK MAGAZINE, CD, DVD and BOOK COVERS

Something that has interested and intrigued Jay for some time, this particular technique involves shooting for a particular magazine style, then creating a mock-up of the covers using Photoshop.

Although mainly for Jay's professional portfolio, the technique does provide something different for a models portfolio.

The cover style can be from any magazine, but might include specific titles such as: FHM, Elle, Bliss, Loaded, Bizarre, Mayfair, Penthouse etc., and more generally, parenting / pregnancy, sports, fitness, motoring, technology and other similar styles of magazine.

If there is a particular style you would like to shoot for, please ask.

    Samantha - First shoot

    TFP FINE ART NUDE STUDIES

Many models are keen to have moody and pensive fine art nude studies to show off in their portfolios. This is not necessarily just because they like the style, but also because it shows the models figure to best advantage, and demonstrates their versatility in front of the camera.

The style is normally associated with more experienced models, but as TFP is more often associated with first time or inexperienced models who are building their portfolio, striking results can still be achieved.

The image below, which is also the showcase image at the top of the page, was taken during a first time shoot.

If you have an affinity for any particular style or genre (e.g. Helmut Newton, David Hamilton, Jan Saudek, Bob Carlos Clarke, etc.) please ask when contacting Jay Fine Art.

    COMMERCIAL PROJECTS / COMMISSIONS

If you have a specific commercial requirement, please contact Jay Fine Art to discuss the potential.

Submissions and requests for commission work in all styles will be considered. This can range from standard portraiture to specific style to capture a moment in the models life.

    COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

    OVERVIEW

A collaborative project is where both the model and Jay Fine Art, have total control of content and sales.

The mechanics are simple. The model and Jay Fine Art do a shoot on a non-paid speculative basis (details about expenses are covered further on).

The images are ‘processed’ ready for the final presentation medium.

    The model gets:

  • A CD containing images of all of the frames shot
  • A set of cropped / colour corrected / manipulated shots processed in PhotoShop (e.g. retouch marks, blemishes, scratches, tints, colour correction / alteration etc.)
  • It is agreed at the time of reviewing the images, which of the pics are for inclusion in a particular project.

If the images are sold as fine art pictures or if there is a cash win in a competition, Jay Fine Art, deducts the costs involved in producing the prints, then the net profit is split with the model 50:50.

    For example:

    • A Fine Art print order is received for a 30" x 20" pic of the model, at a price of (say*) £95
    • The cost to produce the print is £32
    • Post & packing + insurance to the customer is (say) £5
    • Total cost £37
    • Net profit £58
    • Model receives £29
    • Jay Fine Art receives £29

Jay Fine Art undertakes to provide adequate proof of the cost of producing and delivering the print to the client. This will normally include, copies of receipts for printing and P&P, a copy of the order (or sales invoice) from / to the purchaser. That way the model will see that JAY Fine Art is being fair when a print is sold.

    * Typically, professional photographers charge up to £500 (or more!!) for a framed 30" x "20, so the price might well be in excess of the £95 example quoted here.

Joint project income can come from a variety of sources. It might be Fine art prints sold off of the web site, or through print sales in art galleries, the sale of stock images, winnings from competition entries, or editorial or book sales.

Some projects are immediate, some medium term, and a few long term (i.e. book projects can take years to fulfil). It is entirely up to the model what project they would like to be involved with (subject to their style and suitability for the project of course.) Most models choose a number of projects to show versatility within their portfolio.

A specific shoot list can be provided for any project if a model is unsure of the style or content required.

Collaborative projects may take the form of:

    Competitions

If a model shoots with JAY, some images may be submitted as competition entries. There are many competitions around the world, and if a cash prize is forthcoming from entry of models image, the split will once again be 50:50 after deducting the costs of entry or production of prints.

    Books (+ Fine Art Prints)

Book projects tend to have a longer lead-time than other projects. This should not detract from the fact that there can be reasonable rewards. If a shoot is undertaken for any of the book projects, Fine Art Prints will be sold in the interim period to enhance / speed-up the earning potential.

    NOTE: The Profit Split

On book projects this would be pro-rata depending on the number of models used to illustrate the book. This could range from a 50:50 split between JAY and a single model, or a straight % of revenue gained from the sale of the book to a publisher if multiple models are used.

The net profit would be calculated from book sales revenue, less the cost of production, (e.g. the cost of the initial shoot and production of CD/prints for both parties + any additional expenses incurred.)

    EBooks

The concept here is that a photo-story is published on a chapter by chapter basis on the internet web pages. After previewing content via the first chapter which is free, all remaining chapters are for subscribers only. The model will receive a 50:50 cut of subscriber fees, or pro-rata if more than one model is featured.

    Your Ideas

As a model, you must have ideas of your own which you would like to bring to fruition. Perhaps a collaborative effort with JAY Fine Art is one way of achieving that goal.
